Pinterest Inspired (A Poser Challenge)

This summer hasn't all been swimming pools, nature walks and baseball.  It's also been about movies--family movie nights.  Via NetFlix we've exposed the kids to movies I never thought we'd watch together (or I'd ever watch period).  Movies like The Pacifier, where I was moved to tears by the life lessons Vin Diesel taught us, and Cheaper By the Dozen, which to be completely honest, I've watched before and liked.

But the other night I found my movie mom soulmate in the remake of Yours, Mine and Ours.  The movie itself isn't very good, but oh man, I love Rene Russo's character and can totally relate.  She was all about chaos, lots of kids, fun, art and enjoying her kids and their life.  I love that.  And this was her go-to phrase:

Just like us, her house was the one where something was always going on.  In one scene the very serious, strict parent played by Dennis Quaid and his young son drive by Russo's house.  "That looks crazy," Quaid says.  "That looks fun," the son says.  At any given moment, especially in the summer, you drive by our house and the same can be said.  There might be a half-naked pre-schooler running around the house.  Bikes are strewn all over the driveway.  The kids' artwork hangs on the front porch.  Spray paint cans are at the ready on the back porch if someone wants to spontaneously craft.  The house looks crazy, but fun.

I get it, it's not for everyone.  But we love it.

This week's Pinterest Poser Challenge** isn't really based on Pinterest, it's based on one of our favorite family movie night movies, Ramona and Beezus

**In an attempt at not being a Pinterest Poser,* every week I  detail a new Pinterest challenge whether it be a new recipe or a craft.
*My definition of a Pinterest Poser is someone who is all pins and no substance.

In the movie which is beyond family friendly, not an inappropriate word or scene throughout, Ramona and her dad set out to draw the longest picture in the world.  Last week was Tim's birthday, so the kids decided to make the biggest birthday card in the world.

Together the four of them came up with a plan.

They got a box from the basement.  Asked me to pour the paints in individual paper cups and they were off.

Not only was it fun to watch them create and express themselves, it took a good bit of time on a hot summer afternoon.

When they were done and the paint had almost dried, they set up their surprise on the front porch and waited for the big reveal.  Tim came home from work to possibly the world's biggest birthday card, but definitely a house full of freedom of expression and love.

It's all about the love.

Pinterest is all about ways to organize and beautify mud rooms and perfect looking bedrooms, but it's also about inspiring messy, creative types too.  Pinterest has set my spray-painting, word-loving, self-expressing inner crafty person free and it feels so good.  Pinterest is less about copying in my opinion and more about inspiring.

Have you made something from Pinterest lately?  Had any great successes? Or advice?  Or warning about a project that's a total waste of time? OR hey, do you have any favorite family movie night movies? Do tell.

Please share whatever you're working on in the comments here or over on Facebook.  Come on over and follow my Pinterest boards.

  1. I feel like all of my comments sound the same, but I kind of don't care, because it's genuine: YESSSSS to all of this!

    Happy birthday to Tim too!

  2. That sounds like a great (long) project! And maybe the perfect something to hang in the garage. :D

    1. The garage is the perfect place for it. We are putting ours in our unfinished basement where the kids play.

  3. I felt the same way about The Pacifier, and it really surprised me. I've been trying to do more "Pinterest inspired" craft projects as well. I've kind of given up on clean and orderly, and I'm focusing more on getting things done that I've wanted to do for awhile.
