The Tween Years & Vlogging About Parent Pet Peeves

Even before I was a mother, I wrote about my kids' lives. A million years ago I wrote a column called Adventures in Suburbia.  I started writing it when I was pregnant with my first child.  I wrote about what I thought my baby was going to be like, what I thought motherhood was going to be like.  After Peyton was born, I wrote about what it was all really like--the good, the bad, the surprising, the lovely.

I started this blog when my first born, Peyton, was around 9 years old.  I wrote about having four kids under the age of 10.  I wrote about all of it, the good the bad, the surprising, the lovely, the cute, the funny....all of it.  But over the last year or two, I've written less and less about Peyton.  He doesn't want his picture on the blog as much or on any social media connected to me.  He hardly likes getting in the car with me.  And you know what, that's cool.  I mean I get it.  I cringe to think about how I would've felt if my mother had a blog or a Facebook account when I was a tween about to be a teen. But the problem with all of this is, I am missing out on documenting soooooo much good material.  The tween and teen stuff you guys? Oh my god it's rich with stories and so many of them are hilarious.

I'm saving the stories for later because I have so much to say.  There are times when I feel like Dave Matthews in the video of his song So Much To Say.  Remember? He's squirming around in a straight jacket and just want to get it all out.  Yeah, I'm him right now.

I'm writing stuff in private journals, taking notes so I don't forget.  From eye rolls to sex talks there's a lot going here.  And you guys, I get to go through this four times.  Imagine the stories I will tell.

Stay tuned, the book comes out in 2030.  I will reveal all the twisted tales of coping with tween/teenhood.

Until then I will find new topics to blog and vlog about.
Like coping with annoying parents at choir concerts.  Check it out.

After thinking about Dave Matthews above, I spent an hour up too late listening to Dave Matthews Band songs and reliving a couple of my college years.  Oh my god so fun.

Here are a couple of my favs:

What Would You Say

Ants Marching

Crash Into Me
(I just remember this song being on right after being dumped/rejected and cryyyyyyying because my life was ruined by this guy and it was the worst thing ever and how would anything be okay again and I was 21 and deep and well you get it, so funny now.)

  1. I didn't know you had your very own column before! So cool.
I agree with you - capturing the moments is one thing, but sometimes, you don't need to. Sometimes, you just need to live in it. Especially when your freaking hand and phone are blocking other people :)

  2. Confession: When you worked at the junior high and I found out that you wrote a column, I was so totally impressed! You keep on rocking, Angela!

  3. I'm impressed that you keep the memories of your children in journals, waiting to be revealed in the future! I'm afraid I don't have that kind of discipline. But you are so right - the stories are priceless. :)

  4. Oh, I can't wait for the stories! Henry is already acting like he's pretty excited for the tween years (when did they stop being "preteens" and turn into "tweens"??)/ That, I can wait for. Help!
