Some Alone Time

When I was a kid, I would wake up sometimes and wander out of my room, down the stairs and find my mother watching TV.  I remember feeling very confused and upset.  What the hell was she doing awake with all the lights on in the middle of the f#&*ing the night? (My 8-year-old self never swore or even thought in swear words, but you get the picture, I was way confused.)  To this day, the opening song of "M*A*S*H" can bring on trippy type flashback feelings.  Not that I really ever hear the opening song of "M*A*S*H," but you better believe if I did it would be weird.

Now as a grown up, I realize the middle of the night was more like 11 p.m. And I realize my mother was finally getting and enjoying a little time to herself after taking care of my sister, brother and me all day and evening long.

My kids will be forever haunted by the sounds of the Countess LuAnn and her crew on "The Real Housewives of New York." Since that is my after kids' bedtime, seemingly middle of the night guilty pleasure.

But a mom/person needs a little time to sit, back and relax and indulge in some alone time.  I refuse to feel guilty. That's my number one tip in my latest MomPulse video--relax and enjoy your guilty pleasures.
Check out the rest of my answer to the MomPulse question of the week:
What are your 3 tips to make sure you take care of yourself each week?

(I'm a little annoyed that my hair blends in with my cabinets.  I am learning about this whole vlogging thing....someday I will get the right lighting. I will. I will.)

As much as it pains me, here's the aforementioned M*A*S*H intro:

How do you take care of yourself?  What are YOUR guilty pleasures?

Movies? Did you say movies are one of your guilty pleasures?  Then you should totally enter the Mommy Bear Media Giveaway.  You could win $100 gift certificate for movies.

  1. "I started running after the birth of my 3rd child and I never stopped." LOL sounds like you are running away from home! That could bring some "me" time....

  2. I can totally relate! Just like you, I wondered why my mom was up at various times through the night. As a busy Ob/Gyn, mom, wife, and now blogger, I find my 'me time' (well honestly, 'blog time') at late night/early mornings. In order to blog, I had to give up my 'trash tv' time!
    Great post! :)

    1. So true! I watch a lot less tv now that I blog and sleep less. But I refuse to give up ALL my tv, just can't do it. :) Thanks for reading!
